A lock is an important part of life. It is secure your file and things. But sometimes it is very bad if some file you can use from another system and the file has been locked. You cannot use these files that have a lock. In computer language, we can say padlock.
If you see a lock icon laid on your folders or file, it means that the sharing or security options have been tampered with, either by you or any software or when changing operating systems or migrating some data, or when tweaking the HomeGroup settings. The padlock icon means that the folder or file is not shared with anyone. The padlock on a folder or file usually appears on PCs with Home Groups.
It is very critical to solve this problem, either you need to take ownership of that folder or change your user’s access rights. We need to be an administrator right in order to make any kind of change. This can be done by changing the security settings on the folder and allowing the User groups to, at the least, read from the file and folder.
In this article, we’ll provide solutions to how to remove the lock icon from files and folders. You can try one or both methods if the first doesn’t work.
Note: This issue spans from Windows Vista all the way to Windows 10.
